This past Tuesday I wrote seven words shy of 500 words at lunch. It came from 'the fic that will not end' notebook. Told you Grunt was persistent.
The new craptop is heavier than the old one. It fucks with my back if I am already in pain and try to carry it in its case.
My office computer has 402 files infected with a worm. I am not touching the craptop or it might blow up as well.

I have to admit - the latest mess of bad fanfiction at gurabiteshion.net has been disturbing.
While I understand the owner of the archive does not wish to be elitest, it is disheartening to those who spend vast amounts of time and energy to craft something worthwhile.

50 measly words yesterday.
100 words today.
That will probably be it for a while.
This weekend I need to prepare my bags for school, which begins Monday, and run all the kana I cannot remember when I try to just write them from my head. I will have two bags; one for Japanese and one for the World Lit class. I will carry my plastic briefcase with all the compartments for Japanese like I did the last two semesters. It lets me pack a lot of stuff, like the dictionary, the handouts, the textbook, etc. all in one place. For now, the small Vejiita backpack has been elected for the World Lit class. I will try to pack it this weekend. If that does not work, I will use the Myth bag with the Trigun black cat on it.
With Japanese class on Mondays and Wednesdays and the World Lit course on Thursdays, my nights are pretty much blown. Lunch time will be for reading textbooks, running flashcards and writing papers. I also need to work in one hour per week to be in the language lab.
The muses are NOT amused.

166 words today at lunch.
Didn't touch razor fic. Opened it, looked at the first page balefully for all of five seconds, then closed it. Opened bed fic. Decided I need to follow my own advise and 'introduce' the boys. Had already done some on S but had been remiss on E.
Made myself chuckle with a phrase I wrote:
"... writing that still made women of all ages cream in their panties..."
This one I am writing off the fly, with no scribble notes after the initial ones. I haven't made a hard copy of it yet to start that kind of edit, something I do for all fics at some point or another.

Did nothing creative this weekend on my own work.
Been trying to get a site to remove Haruka Sena's artwork because they posted without permission or credit. I am getting flak from them for quoting her wishes because these people think the artwork can be posted anywhere they wish because they are not making a profit off it.
The attitude is - fanart is to be shared and fanartists don't care if their art is distributed and posted online without credit or permission. They don't think they are in the wrong.
This is not a Fair Use nor a Public Domain issue.
I know I don't want MY artwork scattered all over the place without my permission or without credit due!
I finally decided to send Haruka Sena an email about their abuse. I know the judicial system in Japan is not the same as it is here, but it would really please me if a bunch of Japanese artists would go after the site.
I feel really bad about not being able to stop this like I have been able to stop it at other sites.

Only about 150 words on Thursday.
I went in Thursday night and 'signed-off' of some sections of the razor fic by changing the blue text to black, which is my way to flag myself the section is pretty much complete. Sure, I go in, reread sections, add or delete bits and pieces and such. But for the most part, I think (and hope) things are done for now. Of course, the first beta will always rip and shred, which is good, because the story will be better for it.
I think the kitchen scene is done, FINALLY, at least the first draft before the beta. I may twiddle with it a bit if I re-read it and find 'ghost words' and such.
Still need to get the bloody-ass razor into the story! That section has gotten a hell of a lot longer as well. I was just going to talk about the razor and how E checks it to see if S messes with it. It has turned into a whole section about body hair. *shrug* Grunt's whim.

I tried to get some work done at lunch yesterday but only managed to shuffle around some words because people kept interupting me! I am at lunch, damnit, go find someone else to pester!
Anyway, last night I had left the craptop on the bed to recharge the battery - it is SO NICE being mobile without needing electricity to write! - so when I went to bed I realized I had forgotten about it. So I checked to confirm the battery was fully charged and decided to look at what I hadn't gotten done at lunch.
Ended up putting down 100 words in a few minutes, but not in the story I have been concentrating on, the razor story. Figures. I guess Grunt decided he wanted a change of pace. Either that or he is wanting to mull over the story I have been wanting to complete, to see what else he can throw at me, detail-wise.
For the bed story, I am not happy with where some of the paragraphs are placed at the moment. Part of it is my fault. Sometimes I just find a place to 'stick' a section and begin typing. It may not actually belong there but at least the words are in the manuscript.
This morning I thought about it a little, in the shower, as usual, so I think I have a better idea as to where sections need to be. Initially I did not have the small 'conflict' in the fic at all, but I realized it was important to have it. As soon as I added it, a nice wrap-up ending presented itself. Does this surprise me? No. My muses work in mysterious ways.
My stories are linking to each other a little. I find myself making a small reference to something in one story in another. Hopefully this will not be annoying to some but instead show a continuity in the universe.

200 words yesterday.
About 75-100 at lunch today. I was actually doing some editing today and pulling words out, shuffling sentences and other things like that.
Kitchen scene is still slowly coming together. I ended up moving the creamer/sugar observation to an earlier section, which surprised me, but it works better in the new place, I think.
Main things to still do:
~Towels observation is almost done but still needing tweaking
~Get the razor and all its details into the actual manuscript
~Talk about the clothes being worn as they dress
I still have a LOT of detail to comb through.
I still think I may need to add some more typical male behavior and some more touches of crankiness. The more I am writing, the less 'sticky-sweet' the body of the work is getting, which is good. I want it believable, loving but not too sappy throughout. Sure, some sap WILL occur because it is in the same timeframe as "Over Breakfast", where both boys are more relaxed, settled and comfortable - and they love each other. They are still guys, though, so some obnoxiousness will be around too.

Got about 300 words done on the razor fic Sunday. I have been able to solidify more of the kitchen sequence, something I have been avoiding for some reason. I think I am now ready to get the table completely set for the meal. I know, some people may think - what's your problem? The problem is, the details have to be in place and logical so the reader sees what is going on.
On another note - sometimes I wonder why I bother being nice to potentially good writers, caring about their feelings, when all I get in return are nasty emails.
I am not going to go into it, but it does irk me.
I may have to send this over to uwritecrap and let his/her vinegar take the person down a step or two. Or not. I don't have time to think about it one way or the other right now.
*sigh* I need to go find my head, which has been chewed off.

Did another 400 or so words yesterday on various fics.
Figured I was using a hell of a lot of subordinate clauses throughout entire sections of one fic so I am reworking some of those sentences. I am clueless as to why I enjoy using those so much.
In the same fic, all of a sudden a conflict sprung up that needed to be there. I had glossed over it within the storyline but then I realized it had to be addressed. It is no biggie, and the notes I have made will help make the situation more clear. You know you don't have it right when you start questioning your own plotline with a bunch of "why"s and "how can that be"s. It comes down to not being vague or the reader will ask questions.
The same two fics I have been bouncing back and forth between 'seem' to be 3/4ths of the way to completion. The problem is, I think I am done with various sections and they turn around and bite me and tell me to futz with some things, add a lot more detail right here to be more clear, things like that. So the fics just continue to grow.
Muse Grunt has been happy I have been letting him throw words at me. Evan is beginning to get ansty though. Evan got two weeks and today is Grunt's last day of his two weeks. We shall see what kind of squabbling they will start up with when they both want my time again.

I must honestly admit it: I am stunned.
This has never happened before. I have received more reviews in one day - 24 hours - at gurabite and ff.net for "UFO" than I have ever received for any previous story over a six months' period.

Wrote 100 words at lunch today. I found the second 'guys stink' notes the other day and added it to the razor fic. I cracked myself up writing in the details. Paragraph still needs tweaking, as always, but it was fun thinking about how smelly those boys could get if they were typical guys, and I write them as typical guys!
No Heart Attacks, please...
No, Hell has not frozen over, the Second Coming has not begun, nor is the fat lady singing.
I actually have posted a completed story.
You can now read "Undesirable Flirtatious Objects" at gurabite and ff.net.
This was written with patosan, little_nin and aria in mind, for reasons to be revealed...
THANK YOU to Joules and Aja!

Those of you curious about the previous post about "Over Breakfast" and what I meant about the challenge in structure and balance can see what I mean by visiting this link:

THANK YOU, Joules, for permission to link here! And while you are visiting, check out the great website! (shameless plug)
I grabbed one of my stash accordian files Thursday morning to stuff the working fic folder into and when I opened the file I discovered a working copy of the Greek myth fic! I was wondering where all those notes had disappeared to!
I did a little text-editing at lunch, but not much because of everyone coming in and out because of the pizza in the breakroom. It turned into a semi-working lunch in some ways but that was fine.
Found another 'ghost word' missing in the latest piece and I changed a few one-syllable basic words to some other words.
One more read-through for me and I guess it will be read to post.
I tried for a half-hour Thursday night to draw an illustration for the above fic. Everything I started sucked. I just cannot chibi-fy very well.

Only 100 words at lunch yesterday. I know I won't get any in the craptop today at lunch because it is 'pizza Thursday' at the office. Everyone chips in for pizza and we sit around and chat over lunch.
Looks like the final tweaking for the new fic is in the works. Now, I have to decide if I am going to do an illustration for it prior to posting. It would be a challenge because 'chibi' style would be involved.
The 'razor' fic I am working on right now just seems to be multiplying in detail, which is good in some ways because it will make the story really 'breathe', but it also means all the little ducks have to be in place with the visuals or the reader will not see what I am wanting them to see. I remember when I first posted "Over Breakfast" and the response I received. I had more than one person requesting a second chapter. Huh? That story was a challenge in structure and balance. The way it is supposed to be read is in two columns, but ff.net and gurabite does not allow that kind of formatting. The story stands alone. Anyway, this particular work-in-progress is a 'sequel', so to speak. It is set in the same future and could actually include the "Over Breakfast" scene in it. That's right, I am writing the boys as they would be years later. That's another challenge. This story has another LARGE challenge in it as well, one I will not yet reveal because the whole piece depends on it.
Another fic seems to be relatively close, except I know it needs a hell of a lot of polish before it gets to first-draft status. It deals with sleeping, snoring and beds. I guess it could be related to "Pane Rattling" to a degree.
And speaking of "Pane Rattling", the mini-doujin ain't gonna happen anytime soon, so I am considering a 'redux' version of it, with full descriptions. "Pane Rattling" WAS an exercise in dialogue only, but I think it is time to fill in the blanks. I have been thinking about this for a while now.
Some people may see a pattern here. The majority of my writing are personal challenge fics, meaning I really do write for myself. I think, 'Can I do this and pull it off?', then write it to see if it works. I like to do 'slice of life' fics. I like to keep the identity of charas hidden in some fics, until the very end. I like to write surprises at the end of fics - punchlines, if you will.
My niche seems to be humour and sappy romance, but I write in a 'real' universe and try to make the charas believable within the silliness and sap. I also try to be original in my ideas. I haven't seen anyone else before or since write about 'kokigami', even though I DID notice a small rash of shoulder-biting added to lemons after I posted it! I am actually trying to figure out how to bring a kokigami back, in a cameo role, in one of the working stories, like mentioning one in passing when it is found in a drawer, or something like that.
Enough babble for now.

A little over 225 words yesterday at lunch, paper notes to craptop.
Worked on fic revision #4 some last night on the regular computer. I am doing some sentence shuffling in a few places and some minor re-writing in other places.
Almost 350 words today at lunch, paper notes to craptop. Forgot to load revision #4 onto the craptop this morning so I did not work on it at lunch. That's okay. I think *crosses fingers* that one is in the home stretch of the final beta. If I am lucky, it will be posted by the end of this weekend.
Will hearts stop because *Shock! Shock!* I will have actually posted a story after all this time?
And will they be disappointed because it is such a fluff piece?
I doubt I will get another story completed this week, unless I am VERY lucky. I have a LOT of polishing to do to the one I am working on now. Right now I am just trying to throw in the notes I had written down. I STILL haven't gotten the actual details of the metrosexual razor in yet.

I am amused.
I thought the little story I recently completed was just that, a little story, nothing really important, just some humourous fluff. As I told Aja, my niche seems to be humour and sap, but at least my ideas are original.
I have gotten some WONDERFUL suggestions from my betas; suggestions which have gotten me to work harder on tightening up this tiny tuft of fluff. It's only four pages long!
I am amused because their help is making me work my butt off to polish it. It's a good thing. I haven't finished anything in a long time. I originally thought the last piece 'published' was back in July 2003. I rechecked and realized the last piece was completed October 2003 and it was the little ficlet "Serenade". It has been a LONG dry stretch since anything finished has been put out there for the public to read. *glares at all the in-progress fics that are close to being done*
It's not on purpose. I am just a perfectionist and want to tell a story with as much detail as possible. I want the reader to be able to 'see' what I am imagining. It may not look exactly the same as my vision, but I want what they see to be a rich experience visually.
I did not think this soon-to-be-published piece merited such attention. My lovely betas seem to think otherwise.
*smooch*

Beta in your mailbox, Joules!
Hope it makes you laugh!
Hope it makes you laugh!
751 words on a fic I hadn't planned on working on today, go fig. And I got some words down that turned into a poem. Poem? Weird. I will try to figure out a way to integrate it into a fic.
This is the second time I have mis-placed a piece of paper with my 'men stink' notes. I think I am going to have to dig through my brain and try to remember where I was going to go with it. When I mean 'stink', I really mean smell, not being bad.
I guess I need to make a list of all my working fics.
