I have to admit - it's a first for me. Partly it's because I've never really posted anything multi-chaptered before. I'm a one-shot writer.
Mattress Manuscripts is a series of one-shots, but I'm putting them under one umbrella so it's basically a multi-chaptered fic now. While the collection is not getting a lot of reviews over at ff.net, the group IS getting quite a few story alerts and fave story marks. I suppose that's even better to some degree.
And I don't expect many reviews at gurabite - not anymore. Back in 2004 when the fandom was jam-packed full of serious Gravi writers who gave thoughtful feedback, the collection would have gotten more response. It doesn't bother me, since I'd much rather have a few thoughtful reviews over gobs of the dreaded "cute rit mor!" that makes us all shudder when we see it.
When the anime and manga was translated and made mainstream, we expected the dreck writers to enter the fandom and pollute it, and they did, including them giving glowing reviews to fellow dreck writers. Luckily, the fandom retained its good writers instead of losing them. We even gained new ones and are still getting good writers finding gurabite and posting there.
It's been refreshing to have these new and excellent writers show up in the fandom even now, years after Gravi first came available to those of us who watched fansubs and terribly translated bootlegs. I started reading Gravi when ONLY serious writers were in the fandom and those few writers were master story-tellers with Engish grammar, punctuation and spelling skills.
Now I just hope for little gems within all the dreck.
