A silly Dragon
A little youkai says, "GIVE ME CANDY!"
Shiyuu gets back at Eiri, who bit S last year. (It was one of last year's Halloween oekakis)

Now, Instead of getting on the computer in the morning after I wake up, I am drawing. The Saiyuki pic is driving me along. I may not do an ink version of this one after all. I am 'fudging' some of the details which would need more definition in an ink drawing.
Yesterday at lunch, I worked on hair for the Saiyuki pic. My evil minion, babyzerochica, got a sneak peek and she says she liked it - all that hair.
Last night, I realized a bunch of problems with what I had sketched out and worked on the drawing for a while. This also allowed me to rest my chest and back since I draw in bed, lying on my stomach.
Goku's hand needed a complete redo so I did that. Used my own hand again and got it a little more simplified in structure. After looking at that particular section for so long I realized Goku's arm was much too short for the position. I had it going straight up and it was wrong. The length from shoulder to elbow was too short. So I had to bend it so it was the right length and make sure it still lined up with the new hand I had just spent an hour fixing.
After moving Goku's arm around I had to now show parts of Sanzo's body underneath, so I sketched in some stuff that will probably be put in shadow to avoid having to put in details.
Gojyo's hand was much too small so I had to completely redo it. I left Hakkai's hand alone since Kanan had made a comment in both the manga and the anime about liking Hakkai's lovely hands.
Then I noticed Hakkai's arm was also too short. This morning I added some length to it and erased the hand he had. I will have to figure out a new position for his hand later.
I am still debating on whether or not to add sleeping Hakuryu to this drawing...

Evan has been pulling me in all sorts of directions lately and I have no clue why.
The Saiyuki pic is shaping up nicely. I am still considering drawing it up with my usual over-the-top shading, then using the office light table to trace off the main lines to do an ink drawing of the same thing. Of course, the hair WILL look different because I will ink as I like and not follow what I did with the pencil work. I see this as a one-shot drawing. I do not think I will pursue more drawings in this universe in the future, except for oekaki, of course.
I bought the Wolf's Rain HK bootleg from eBay last night. Evan is also wanting me to start drawing Tsume for some reason, probably because the structure is somewhat Eiri-like so I should be able to pull it off. Probably will only do a portrait or two at most. The guy does not have enough hair for me to do him justice! Hmm. Maybe I should try some oekaki first to see if I can pull it off.
I am not feeling remotely driven to write in any of these universes, just draw from them.
No, I am not giving up on Gravi, not at all. In fact, I have two pics in the final stages and will probably be signed off on soon. I have lots of stuff waiting to be worked on and I am wanting to work on those pieces. The GQ piece is 75% done. I just need to spend some time working on my cg techniques more. Maybe that's one of the reasons why I have been compelled to draw directly into Photoshop lately. That and fel and aira's work, that is.
Gravi still floats my boat, but I am diversifying a little right now. It is still my passion.
It is just right now, this Saiyuki pic is being stubborn about being in the forefront at the moment.

More about the Saiyuki pic...
It has been interesting, trying to make sure I have the 'look' of the charas without copying the mangaka, yet trying to make sure I have the 'gist' of each guys's persona AND retaining my own style.
I have all the artbooks and six manga to look at as reference materials. I guess some people think I am just a Gravi girl, but it is not true. Saiyuki is an anime that appeals to many people on different levels and that's one of the reasons why I like it. Plus, the artwork in the manga and artbooks is amazing, actually much better than the Gravitation manga.
The pert little noses I usually draw just don't cut it with three of the boys. These are bony, sinewy and angular guys, without any excess flesh on them. And all their mouths are much wider than usual.
The various hands have been driving me bonkers because I only have myself as a model and some of the positions really need a photograph taken so I can draw from those poses. And if I am drawing a left hand I have to stop, look at my hand, and try to remember what I saw.

I was inspired to draw from a different series yesterday, so I have started a Saiyuki pic. I sketched some more on it today.
Hint: All four boys are in the picture and they are all asleep.
rat likes it so far.
I haven't decided if I am going to keep it as a pencil drawing and do the usual shading or if I am going to ink it and do cg. I am sketching it so it can go either way.
I got about 50 words into the razor fic doc last Friday. The Tuesday prior, I did some writing on one of the hard copies. I still haven't gotten the blasted razor written into the storyline yet. *sigh*
I have been so tired this weekend, but I DID get some Japanese study in during the time I was awake.

And speaking of oekaki, I lost one last night, and I liked it. It was S sleeping with his face in his pillow, with E reading a book 'behind' the sleeping body. Pillows and such all over the place. The sheets looked like they were gore-covered, though. Guess the applet did not like that.

Tuesday at lunch I messed around with the razor fic some more. Just little details here and there, like how is E using two hands to do something if he is smoking - get the cig in his mouth before this sentence - stuff like that. Still no razor section written. It's probably going to be the last thing added. This piece will be over a year old before I finish it.
Monday, I read over the section of the hospital fic I had written in the back of the Japanese notebook. I really need to get the two pieces out of the notebooks and into an electronic doc.
The pirate fic is floating around in my back pocket, literally. I have a little notebook I keep in my jeans pocket in case I get an inspiration in an inconvenient place. It has smut tidbits as well as story outlines and paragraphs of pieces.
I am still futzing around in Photoshop, trying to work with drawing directly there and not using a traditional sketch as a base.

Sent "While You Sleep", with the horsey-faced Eiri to the usual suspects this morning.
Sunday, October 17, 2004
This past Friday, I printed out the razor fic and read it, even though I have not inserted some of the sections from the past printout.
I have made some notes on changing a word or two. I found a few places where I needed to add a small 'action' to explain why the next sentence's action.
I can tell I have already divorced myself from the World Lit class, and the muses are jumping up and down with glee.
I have been playing (I don't know if I would call it drawing) in Photoshop again. I did an Eiri last night, inspired by infected_wound's lovely cg pieces.
Photoshop was SLOW last night, just like it used to be when I was having so many problems. I ran Ad-aware but it found nothing. It became slow yesterday and the only thing I had tried to install yesterday was the Sony Magiqlip for the new Gravi Drama CDs. Yet again, I got an error right before the end of the installation. The program would not disappear from the Add/Remove list. Finally, I searched for it with various spelling combinations and found it lurking in a folder which was not in Program Files or in Windows at the prompt.
When I threw away the folder and rebooted, everything was shiny again.
Oh yeah, I promised to send that Gravi "While You Sleep" CQ pic with the monkey-faced Eiri to the usual suspects before the weekend was over. Better go do that sometime today.

Well, with fel and aria as inspirations to try to draw in Photoshop, here is one of my first attempts to draw directly in the program without making a full-blown pencil drawing or inked piece first.
It is definitely not one of my overly-done pencil drawings! I call it "While You Sleep".
I really depended on my oekaki abilities to try and pull this off.
Don't you just love Eiri with the monkey-face jaw?
Now I am going to go pass out because I have an upper respiratory infection and pleurisy.
Have fun poking fun at this! It's squishy!

Damn those plot brontosauruses...
I pulled out my little notebook at lunch and found myself writing the beginning of some a/u fic about S being a bloody pirate...
Agh!
I do NOT need any more story beginnings! No No No!

For fel:
Here is The Dread Pirate Captain Snugglecake's hamster/parrot!
THANK YOU for inspiring me to keep trying to draw in Photoshop, fel! You were the one who directly influenced me to work up that Yu Yu piece, especially after drawing together in Open Canvas!
*smooch*
A large version is on the way to you, sis!

Been needing to do some art lately - here are the latest oekaki:
This is called "Bad Week".

As these oekaki boards cycle through numbers, these will no longer link to the pics I drew. By then, they may be posted on the website.

The Dread Pirate Captain Snugglecakes
I know, I know, it is unusual, but yes, it's another pic in one day. It is a little blurry because of the compression and shrinking.
I remember making a comment about this a few months ago somewhere. I cannot find it on the meet so I must have made a comment on someone's personal lj.
Anyway, I started the drawing back on July 3rd and abandoned it when the cabin boy in the background, Eiri, would not shape up. When I erased the cabin boy, everything fell into place nicely. In fact, it finished up in only a few hours, including the inking.
After I finished it, Eiri started bitching about wanting to be in the pic again. I told him off - saying he should have cooperated in the beginning.
All the colouring was done in Photoshop, as usual. I tried to go for a more anime/oekaki look to the colouring technique this time.
I added some overlay textures to the pants, vest and pouch to give those items a little more depth.
The pirate ship in the background is an altered photo I took at Disneyland, May 2000.
This is not supposed to be a Halloween pic, but it may turn into one anyway.
Large image to the usual suspects later.

While I have been sick, Evan has been pestering me. So when I could sit up for any length of time I did a little creative stuff.
This piece was done purely in Photoshop and I used everything I have learned using oekaki to pull this one off. I started off using a 150 dpi and it helped keep the lines less 'jaggy'.
I know, it is not my usual subject matter. Hey, I was collecting Kurama and Hiei yaoi doujinshi long before I knew about Gravitation.
rat says Hiei must be standing on a box...
I had not planned on sending this to the usual suspects because this is more of an experiment for me over an actual piece. I guess if you want a copy of it, let me know. *scratches head*

So, today, when I removed the bits of "Eiri the Cabin Boy" (no head yet) from the "Captain Snugglecakes" sketch I started and abandoned back on July 3, the drawing started to bloom. It was like Eiri was fighting me, like he did not want to be in the picture because I was going to make him Shiyuu's servant.
Anyway, with the headless grumpy-puss gone, the captain jumped out and was free.
Instead of ragged pants, he now has bucket boots and billowy pants.
The skull on his shirt has an eyepatch.
He has a sword on one belt and a pouch on another belt.
A vest appeared, which then got long and turned into a sleeveless long jacket.
His big cavalier-like hat grew three plumes.
I looked at the sketch and decided to ink it, right then and there.
I looked at it and deemed it cute.
Guess who decided to waltz in? Eiri stepped back out and said he wanted to be included again because he wanted to be with his tribble. I told him 'tough shit' and signed the pic.
So, the inking is done but the scanner and drivers have to be installed before I can get it ready to colour.
Yep, you are going to have to wait for it...
