I was so rewarding to kill that icon community from my list last night.
I already have an idea scribbled on paper for the March drabble, if the theme will deal with American holidays. If the theme is something else, I still have a one-shot mostly completed on paper.
I am debating on getting the internet access set up on the craptop so I will have it next week while I am writing.
The art muse, Evan, has completely deserted me for some reason. I haven't been able to pull off a successful oekaki for two weeks. I think Grunt has tied him up and shoved in a deep dark closet somewhere.
The gender of my web muse has finally been revealed. It's a hermaphrodite.

I came home to a fucked computer.
I could not get it to reboot except in safe mode and still cannot.
rat finally loaded Photoshop 5.5 on his machine and I was able to grab the files so I could send an icon in at 9pm central on the dot. I am in central zone.
I sent it up, then looked at my flist and the contest is already up. I am leaving that community after I finish typing this.
This was going to be my entry:
The other one for consideration is missing the Photoshop 7 effects - 5.5 cannot see them - so I will have to post it later, after either the software gets installed on rat's computer or my computer starts running again.
I am REALLY pissed about this - about the computer, making the decision today to enter and ending up getting there too late.

Hmmm...
Still in a quandry about using official manga/anime art...
This is one of the practice icons I did last week for the cross-dressing contest. I used both Photoshop and Fireworks for this one. Obviously I am not even considering using anything like this if I decide to enter the contest because I am showing it now.
rat thinks I should consider temporarily dropping my scruples for this one contest to see what happens. One of the things that has me hesitating is I have two different icons with two totally different looks and styles. The one I like does not have the kind of 'look' I have noticed seems to have the tendency to win. The other one has that look and is okay in design, but I really like the other one better, even though it probably has a snowball's chance in hell for more than a few votes, if any at all.
I changed the colour and the pattern for the "Over Breakfast" banner.
I did one for "Serenade" now.

I am in a bit of a quandry.
For fun, I went ahead and did some icons for the crossdressing contest, because part of the point of joining the group was for the challenges.
Well, I liked the three plus variations I put together.
So, should I get over my personal scruples about using other people's artwork (in this case, the official manga and anime) to participate in these contests when I do not have anything of my own to use?
Or should I stick to my guns and only participate with my own artwork when possible and use official artwork only when the contest specifically says to use it?

You know, from past winners at , I thought I had figured something out - not make the text that readable. That's right, some of the winners have had text I haven't been able to read well.
I am back to batting a thousand with no votes, and it surprised me this time. I thought this icon was pretty good so I am a tad irritated about getting zero votes.
I had two other versions of it I considered. Maybe one of them would have gone over better. Maybe the text was too sappy. I will never know, of course.

rat seems to think it is a popularity contest and that some people are telling others which icons are theirs. I do find that hard to believe.
Anyway, next week's contest is cross-dressing, so unless I actually draw something for it I will not be entering it. While I have some fun ideas for it using some of the manga images, I refuse to use them unless I am forced to do so, as in this last contest.
I did another banner for the Forever Fandom fic archive.
One of these years I might get a real drawing for "Over Breakfast". I have started a couple of times but the drawings just haven't worked. I am considering taking a photo of table settings and doing some cg alterations.

I went over to Forever Fandom to load "Red Day, White Day" and noticed something on the Latest page. People were putting graphics in the area for the summaries. It made me think about how they were doing it. So I throw together two banners for the two drabbles, placed the source code and updated. They landed just fine, so now two little Gravi banners with original artwork are with "Red Day, White Day" and "Winter Drabble", trying their best to be seen over all those awful Harry Potter banners.

One person has actually read "Winter Drabble" there! Sorry, that just amuses me to no end. Forever Fandom is a big HP place (blegh!) so I do not expect many views there anymore.

On a similar note - I got a review for "Kokigami" over at foreverfandom.net (http://www.foreverfandom.net/) after all this time. I find that humourous to a degree because I posted "Winter Drabble" over there this past Sunday and I have received nada comments. I will give it a few days before posting "Red Day, White Day".
I have noticed most of my most recent stories are not sex-filled enough to post at adultfanfiction.net, so I have not done so. "Kokigami" and "Serenade" are the only ones fitting for the site - and "Serenade" is squeezing in only because of more sexual references than usual.
The piece Grunt forced me to start on last night may make up for that...
I have officially made plans to be off a week beginning Feb 28. so Grunt can have fun. It is tempting to take the time and try to get EVERYTHING out of the notebooks and into doc files; a daunting task because of all the stuff I have written in those little notebooks. I think it would be better to try and COMPLETE one of the bloody pending pieces if possible.

I was back to zero votes on this icon until the last minute, when it got two!
Not the prettiest one I have done, but it was difficult to find some artwork to go with the 'lies' concept.
I don't know if the Feb drabble will be done for Valentine's Day. Officially, I have all month, so it just might have to go a few days after. I had planned on working on it today, but I slept most of the day. I just need to get the rest of the scribbles into the doc file and count the words. I know I am going to go over the 500 word limit but I don't care.

I was futzing with one of my 2003 Liquid Rodent/Gravi drawings last night because it was one I was considering posting for this week's update. I got it set up in the template, then I remembered working on a coloured version way back when. So I went looking for it.
Gah, I found it. The colour work was pretty dreadful in my opinion. I used the airbrush tool on the skin and it did not look as good as some of my past pieces (some still needing to be posted). S's hair looked okay but E's hair was just a flat blob of yellow.
So I saved the file with a new name and started colouring over what I had done, but this time using the cel shading techniques I have learned from oekaki and the hair technique I use now when I colour hair. The boys look much better now. Since it is an alternate universe and they are on a tropical pleasure planet, they can have tanned skin.
While I was colouring, I looked at the drawing itself and came to the conclusion it sucked for the most part. S's upper arms are just WRONG! I remember how difficult it was to draw those skinny arms after doing pumped-up DBZ boys. I considered taking the pic out of the portfolio and redrawing the arms last night then stopped myself. One of the purposes of the website is to show the growth and progression of my artwork, styles and techniques. Going back and redoing the crap defeats that purpose.
So I am letting sleeping bishies lie and not touch the old stuff, as tempting as it may be. I may consider a compromise and redo the drawing on a digital copy of a piece one of these years.

Lugged craptop ni to the office today. I have been scribbling on printouts of various stories for about two weeks now. Time to start putting those bits and pieces into the manuscripts.
'razor' fic and the val-day drabble are the main ones being played with.
No drawing except for oekaki. It is that time of the year to draw VDay images of Eiri and Shuichi on the various oekaki boards. I have done two so far. I will post the links when I have a few more done.

Well, I broke down and wrote out that dream outline. Well, I suppose it is more than an outline since I put some details in it.
Anyway, it amounts to 601 words.
Will I do anything with it? Hard to say. I do not know how to finish it and I usually have a start and a finish in place when I begin a piece. Yes, 'the fic that will not end' has had an ending since the very beginning. It's the middle bits that keep expanding. More and more, this may have to be divided into two fics. It has a semi-finish in the middle of it that would work. Ugh, I don't need to think about that monster right now. It's 25,700+ words as it is right now...

We have been 'busy' playing video games on the Playstation 'classic' and the Playstation II. It is one of the many things we do together. Now that I am not in class, we are spending more time away from the computer and passing the controller back and forth.
I WILL need to escape soon, let rat watch some of his dreadful TV (he likes girlie romance movies - blegh) and go to the bedroom to write on craptop ni. Damned thing is much heavier than craptop ichi and I hate lugging it to work, especially since the d-rings on the bag have dug into the webbing so the shoulder strap is not safe to use. I hate having to use the handles because they kill my hands and pull down on my shoulders. /end whine

The few times I dream of Eiri and Shuichi, it is always an 'angst prince Shuichi' storyline. This one I woke up from and developed some, but now I am too lazy to write it down. Where is my Ghost in the Shell neck plugs when I need them?
